1. soak the pod for about a day to soften the paper and start germination. once it is soft, the seed inside should be easy to locate with careful hands.

2. plant the pod: moist soil and sunlight. make sure that the seed itself is about 1/4 of an inch in the dirt. keep it moist, keep it in the sun! plant it in a pot, or plant it outdoors in early to late spring. it will probably take 5 to six days for the sprout to come up.

3. it would be wonderful, as the nurturer of a pod, you would share a comment about where you found it or how you acquired it, and the progress it makes.
A note about the type of seed: most likely, you will have encountered a pod with a calendula seed inside. these are a type of edible flowers that are valued for healing properties. the petals add a wonderful spicy flavour as well as colourful oranges and yellows to a salad.
